Good to go

At one point in time, we found a record store selling slightly defective LPs at discounted prices. Luckily the imperfections in question were chiefly cosmetic and did not alter the sound quality. We took a chance and purchased “Wind & Wuthering” by the British band, Genesis.

As the album played, puzzlement quickly grew to frustration. It was the first time I had experienced progressive music, and I was caught off guard by the stylistic boundaries being pushed so dramatically. I even considered returning the LP for a full refund. Realizing this scenario was never going to pan out, I gave it another try. The second sitting was not as bewildering. The following day, feeling less annoyed, I listened to it once more. It was then that I began to appreciate the depth of the band’s musical innovations.

To this day, certain songs trigger a memory of us longing to finish our school year and get the hell out of that godforsaken armpit of the world.
